Susan Boyle Fan Marcia Reports on her Trip to NY to See Susan

You may remember Marcia from a few a months ago. She was the excited Susan Boyle Fan Club USA member who received a phone call from Susan. Read the original post >>>
Marcia was also one of the lucky fans to be in New York for Susan's performance on the "Today" show. The photo on the right was taken from one of the TV news reports.
Please enjoy Marcia's report on her trip and thank you Marcia for sharing your experience with all of us.

Hello to everyone out in Susan Land!

I promised to write my experiences after Thanksgiving so here I am. First, let me say that Lan, Kathleen, and ChrisinPA wrote a wonderful synopsis of the trip to NY. I’ll just add to what they have already written.

Fans arrived at different times throughout the weekend. I flew in on Sat., Nov. 21, alone. After checking in and settling in, I put my big Susan button on and went out to see whether I would find any other fans. At Times Square which was thick with people, a lady recognized my button. I was thankful to find another fan. She had brought her sister and we walked around looking for the St. Andrews Restaurant. Some fans would be showing up there just to visit and listen to Scottish music. We finally found the restaurant and saw some Susan fans. We chatted and had a good time visiting. Del and Leslie McMillan, her sister Marie, two ladies from Florida, one from Virginia, Kathi from Minnesota and I sat around a big table.

Our conversation shifted from finding out about each other to individual videos taken for the upcoming documentary to Susan (of course) and her arrival at JFK Sunday afternoon. Susan’s team had requested fans to meet her at the airport. What a wonderful experience that was! We took three trains to get there. I think it took almost an hour. We were afraid we’d be late, but we weren’t. There were many cameras waiting. They were on one side and the fans were across from them. In fact, we had to wait quite a while. Susan must have been the last to get off. Then there were screams from somewhere and we knew she was approaching. She shook some hands as she came around the corner, but as she got closer to where I was standing, the crowd started moving closer to her. So-o-o I did it too. I stuck my hand in and Susan grasped it. I couldn’t believe it! I said loudly, “I’m Marcia Kennon the one who sent you the picture.” Then she took her other hand and clasped it on top of my hand. What a thrill that was!! I was asked later if I had washed my hand yet. LOL .” Susan looked great in her pink coat with a white scarf with tiny black polka dots. Susan is shorter than I thought. She must be 5’l” or 5’2”. A reporter from GMTV interviewed Susan briefly. As Susan and her team moved to the door, we all moved along with her. She was whisked away in a big SUV with darkened windows. The reporter from the GMTV show interviewed three of us outside. Had no idea whether they would use it, but they did. Most of this is on the website video: “Susan lands in America.”

Lan, Kathleen and ChrisinPA have given a very in depth report about the dinner at St. Andrews Restaurant and fans attending the concert. I just want to add that I was fortunate to be in the VIP section. I’m only 4’ 10” and would not have seen anything if nice people had not let me stand in the front so I could see. I asked those behind me if they minded and they said “no” because they could see over me. It was so wonderful to be able to see, but occasionally a cameraman would block my view. The man who took Susan’s scarf is Andy Stephens, her music manager.

Susan made us all laugh in the restaurant. She is such an entertainer with great wit and sense of humor. The ladies mentioned above described the brunch very well. The group picture was a disaster ONLY for me. Everyone lined up against the wall. I was in the front, but in front of me, people kneeled. All of a sudden Susan and the two ladies who were the presenters at the brunch came over and stood in the middle. Just about all the kneelers stood up. Naturally, they blocked my view so I was not in the picture.

As we made our way back to the restaurant, Susan was in front. All of a sudden her big bodyguard gently touched my arm and led me up by Susan. At first, I didn’t realize they were video taping us. Susan and I were walking along together. She put her arm around me and even patted me on the head. This was beyond my wildest dreams! What a way to end a wonderful weekend!

Susan Boyle Represents the Underdog in Us All

By Joan E. DowlinFreelance musician (French hornist) from the Philadelphia, PA area.

I just received Susan Boyle's new CD I Dreamed A Dream and I have to admit, I was enraptured at first listen. In fact, I was moved to tears. I don't know if it was the music or the thought that she had dedicated this album to her mother and it made me miss mine who died three years ago of Alzheimer's Disease. My mom had a beautiful soprano voice and she always had a dream of sharing her gift with the world.

In a way, Susan is doing that for her. She represents the underdog in all of us. Anyone who is a wallflower, insecure, bullied, gay, a minority, too heavy, too thin, too tall, too short, too old, too young, too plain, too beautiful, too smart, too dumb, too talented, or just different can relate to Susan Boyle. Which is just about every one of us... Click Here to Read the Full Article>>>

"Randma" Presents Susan with the Quilt in NY

Here's a different angle and longer video of the quilt presentation in New York. Susan is a) a REAL person, b) a natural born comedienne, and c) a wonderful singer. It is OBVIOUS she's clowning around with regard to "baby steps" and then sucking her thumb, etc., etc. She's got a fun sense of humor and is ENTERTAINING. Simon Cowell speaks out

Great, must see interview!!!

Piers Morgan talks about Susan's Year

Piers Morgan in the "Sun" newspaper:

"She began it as an anonymous lady living alone with her cat, Pebbles, near Glasgow. She has ended it as a genuine international superstar whose debut album is, unbelievably, the fastest selling in history."

"To the cynics, I say bah humbug. The Susan Boyle story is not a modern-day parable of reality TV disaster. An innocent victim, her life ruined by transient fame.

It's the story of how one woman from a Scottish village set the whole world alight with the sheer force of her personality and raw, undiscovered talent."

Susan Boyle - NBC's Woman of the Year

Interestingly, this should be "The Susan Boyle Story of the moment". However, the media seems to be obsessed with thumb sucking and emotional tears and has given very little coverage to this great honor.

From Niall O'Dowd: Susan Boyle has been named 'Woman of the year' by NBC Today show host Matt Lauer in a wonderful tribute to her extraordinary story.

Susan's red scraf on the "Today Show"

Thanks to "Anon" in the previous post

"Ever wonder what happened to Susan’s red scarf after her first song on NBC’s outdoor performances? Guess her handlers felt she was having too much fun with it. Here’s a clip (not too many have seen) showing someone coming on stage and taking it off her shoulders during a break. You could tell there was no warning. After some thought, I felt they should have asked her to not twirl the scarf instead of just taking it. It looked too much like a parent disciplining a child! Does anyone know who the man is? He is also seated next to her in the restaurant when she became emotional with the Quilt. He could be a bodyguard, but looks more like a business manager of some sort"

Susan Boyle on NBC's "People of the Year"

Thanks to "DocRobbie314" for posting this on YouTube.

Transcript from MSNBC:

Matt Lauer: We have just a little surprise for you. Now, the Orpheum, one of the most famous theaters in all of Los Angeles-- and we just wanted you to be welcome. So, if you can turn around now-- (laughter) you're headlining at the Orpheum. (laughter) How does-- how does it feel to see your name up in lights like that?

Susan Boyle: That's awesome.

Matt Lauer: You like it? (laughter) Good. We're off to a good start. (laughter)

Susan Boyle laughs easily, and playfully.

Matt Lauer: Are you giving me that mischievous look?

Susan Boyle: I am. I'm being very mischievous. (laughter)

And it's not just the glamorous make-over. This just isn't the same shy, awkward woman who was greeted with rude snickers when she walked onto the stage of "Britain's Got Talent."
Her voice made skeptical jaws drop. And when her breathtaking rendition of "I Dreamed A Dream" hit YouTube, the plain Jane from a tiny village in Scotland became an instant phenomenon.
Simon Cowell: Three yes!

Matt Lauer: Now, seven months later, you're one of the most talked about, and one of the most googled, one of the most internet-viewed women on the planet.

Susan Boyle: It feels very surreal. You know, as if it's not really happening.

Matt Lauer:
Was there a moment when you realized it had happened? "My goodness, I'm famous" ?

Susan Boyle: I didn't give it much thought. All that I know is, there was a lot of attention. “How do you cope with all this?" Wah! (holds her head in her hands)You know?
Her precipitous rise to fame was scary -- even as fans clamored for more of her magical voice and gutsy courage --there were hurtful headlines, and rumblings about her ability to cope.

Susan Boyle: I did have a period of self-doubt, when I wasn't good enough. And there are times when, because I'm shy, sometimes I wished it would go away.

Matt Lauer: Because you could make it go away. You could say "You know what, I had my moment." I'm gonna go back to my small town in Scotland and I'm gonna get my life back."

Susan Boyle: Well, sometimes you do think that because it's only in human nature.

Matt Lauer: How would you say your confidence level is today, versus when we first saw you on that stage on April 11?

Susan Boyle: I've grown up a bit. I've become more of a lady, I don't swing my hips as much, you know (laughter). I think I've matured.

Matt Lauer: You don't long for a simpler life again?

Susan Boyle: I accept now that my life will never be the same. And I don't want it to end.

Matt Lauer: And that's okay with you.

Susan Boyle: It's okay. It's just comfortable in my shoulders right now.
It isn't likely to end anytime soon. Her debut album, featuring 11 cover tunes and one original, was so hotly anticipated, it smashed worldwide records -- easily becoming amazon.com's biggest CD pre-order ever.

Matt Lauer: U2, in 2009, you sold more in advance. Bruce Springsteen. The Dixie Chicks. Coldplay. That list and Susan Boyle is on the top of that list.

Susan Boyle: Oh heavens. That's quite awesome.

Matt Lauer: Do you feel pressure?

Susan Boyle: No, I don't feel pressure just now. I just feel a sense of humility.

Matt Lauer: The variety is incredible on the album. There are some hymns. You've got "Silent Night" on there. There are some ballads. There's a Madonna song (laughter).

Susan Boyle: I like Madonna anyway, she's good
Madonna's song "You'll See" is part of what makes this album so personal for Boyle. She says it's directed at the teachers who beat her as a child, and the kids who taunted her so cruelly.

Susan Boyle: That was a kind of statement I was trying to make because I was bullied a lot in school.

Matt Lauer: A little bit of "you know, you may have done that -

Susan Boyle: You may have done that to me when I was younger -

Matt Lauer: But you can't bully me anymore.

Susan Boyle: 'Cause I'm grown up now.
Talking about it for the first time ever, Boyle revealed that her life has always been difficult because of mild brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation at birth.

Susan Boyle: I do have a slight disability. I had difficulty trying to express myself properly, and music was kind of a release for me.
It's a release that allows her to take risks -- like tackling the Rolling Stones ballad "Wild Horses" which she first performed on "america's got talent."

Matt Lauer: I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I never thought Susan Boyle and the Rolling Stones. (laughter) Why did you choose that song?

Susan Boyle: Well the song itself is, a kind of, autobiography. Sort of dedication to my mother.
It was Boyle's mother Bridget, who died in 2007, who always pleaded with her to give singing a shot.

Matt Lauer: Is it bittersweet for you Susan that she never got to see what's happening?

Susan Boyle: She sees what's happening. She's still with me. She's still here.

Matt Lauer: I got a kick out of something I was reading about you the other day. and it talked about the fact that you've splurged on a couple of items, said that you went out and you bought a brand new burgundy - and I thought it was gonna say like Maserati or Mercedes. And what it said was a brand new burgundy sectional couch. Is that the biggest splurge you've gone with?

Susan Boyle: Well, you've gotta do your home up, haven't ya?

Matt Lauer: so you bought some new furniture.

Susan Boyle: Yeah.
Is there someone in your life now, is there someone special in your life now?

Susan Boyle: You mean a boyfriend?

Matt Lauer: Yeah.

Susan Boyle: No comment. (winks/ laughter)

Matt Lauer: And a wink, too. Good luck to you, Susan. It's been a real pleasure.

Susan Boyle: Thank you very much.

Matt Lauer: Thank you.

Bonus track only released in Japan.

Under normal circumstances we would not post full versions of the tracks from Susan's CD here. However, Sony Music have deprived all Susan’s fans outside of Japan the opportunity to enjoy this great recording. So please enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving.

Wings to Fly

Want to spread my wings and fly
Away into the sky
How I dream to be so free
No more sadness no more pain
No more anger to more hate
How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky

If now, I could grant my wish
I'd wish no have those wings
Those wings just like the birds
That fly up in the air

So high up in the air
With feathers bright and fair
Nor wealth nor power can make
My heart filled with such joy

Want to spread my wings and fly
Away into the sky
How I dream to be so free
No more sadness no more pain
No more anger to more hate
How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky

Want to spread my wings and fly
Away into the sky
How I dream to be so free
No more sadness no more pain
No more anger to more hate
How I dream to have those wings and fly into the sky

Fans Present Susan With A Quilt After The Today Show

A darling video of Susan being presented a gift from her fans after the Today Show in New York (there's even a gift for Pebbles and a "Piersy Baby".

From "Jan-USA"

"There is an absolutely wonderful thread on the Susan Boyle forum
(Click Here for the link>>>) Over 100 members of the forum met, talked with and had lunch with Susan after the Today Show. It's a little confusing as to how this all came together. Seems many forum members actually communicate and stay in touch with Susan's PR manager (Nicola), vocal coach (Yvie), personal assistant (Julia) and various other members of Susan's management team."

Thanks "Jan-USA" and all the other Susan Boyle fans.

Susan Boyle's Management

I get a lot of email complaining about how Susan Boyle is being managed. I've tried to be a Polly Anna about it until now.

What on earth is Sony Management thinking by having different release dates throughout the world for Susan Boyle's CD? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the tracks will appear on YouTube the minute they are released ANYWHERE. This varied-release-date-scheme has done a major disservice to the majority of her fans which are in the USA, UK, and other places in the world where the release date is not until November 23. Who could blame anyone for logging on to YouTube and wanting to listen to the full versions of each song on the CD? Also, why did they release the single additional track only in Japan? How is the rest of the world supposed to listen to and obtain a copy of that track without going via YouTube? All of this is a slap in the face and a disservice to a great majority of her fans (you know, the ones who listened a zillion times to Susan's BGT audition on YouTube).

The Sony Management organization has gotten a free ride throughout this whole thing; they've not had to market Susan at all - it's all been done via the internet AND HER FANS. By the way, where is the person (or people) who put THE video together of Susan Boyle's BGT audition and then put it on YouTube? If anyone deserves any money for the marketing of Susan Boyle, he/she/they do!
